Professional Development in Technology

Teacher and administrator learning designed around curriculum goals, classroom needs and useful technology.

Professional development works best when educators can connect a tool to something they want students to learn. EdTechTrain’s archived programmes combined application skills with curriculum integration and opportunities to practise.

Start with the school’s needs

The original offer described customised programmes for teachers and administrators, reflecting the school’s level of technology experience and its instructional priorities. Planning brought together curriculum goals, state standards and the resources already available in the classroom.

A useful training brief identifies who will attend, what they already know, which devices or applications they use, and the classroom task they want to improve. This makes the session more relevant than a tour of software features alone.

Programme areas

Teaching & learning

  • Problem-based and collaborative learning.
  • Differentiated instruction.
  • Learning models and Bloom’s taxonomy.
  • Technology integration across subject areas.

Tools & implementation

  • Application training and classroom peripherals.
  • Web-based tools and internet safety.
  • Teacher and student technology assessments.
  • Global learning and subject-specific resources.

Make practice part of the session

The archived approach included tailored training materials, collaborative learning and activities that reflected participants’ own teaching. Rather than stopping after a demonstration, teachers could adapt examples and develop materials for their classes.

  1. Choose a curriculum goal and a suitable classroom task.
  2. Model the activity with the tools teachers will use.
  3. Allow time to create, test and discuss a lesson.
  4. Decide what support is needed after the workshop.
